A new headmaster has been appointed to a raise standards at a Jewish school.

Gary Griffin will take over from Charles Dormer as headmaster of Immanuel College, Elstree Road in September.

Mr Griffin’s last job was at the City of London School, Queen Victoria Street, in south London, where he was responsible for pastoral care and school discipline.

He started at Immanuel College as a history and politics teacher before moving onto senior management roles including assistant head teacher, deputy head and acting headmaster in 2014.

For the past two years he has worked with the college to develop improvement plans and models of governance.

Immanuel College’s co-chairman of governors Edward Misrahi said: “Charles Dormer has done an outstanding job for our school and positioned us in a very strong position to continue to grow and develop in accordance with our three key pillars.

“The governors sought a successor who was an academic, who would have the capability to consolidate and continue to raise the standard and performance of the college.

“We were fortunate that we were able to attract a strong set of candidates, but were clear that Gary has all the requisite qualities, experience and energy to further strengthen our performance and to lead the college to the next phase in its success.”

As well as being a governor at primary schools including Newton Prep, Battersea, ARK Bentworth Academy, Sheperd's Bush and Naima JPS in Maida Vale, he has also acted as an educational consultant.

He is currently a non-executive director of the Pegasus Academy Trust, which runs several primary and nursery schools in Croydon.
