After last week’s statement of a “snap” election, Barnet parties have begun revealing their candidates for June 8 and we have your guide to the candidates vying for your vote.

At present the Labour Party have yet to announce their candidates, due to a longer application and verification process, with their nominations to be announced on May 2.

While the Conservative candidates have all expressed their wish to remain the candidate for their seats, each must go through a “re-adoption process”, with each candidate being officially announced in due course.

Currently held by Conservative MP and former Secretary for Northern Ireland Theresa Villiers, Chipping Barnet has been represented by the Conservative party since 1974.

It covers the north-eastern area of Barnet, including the wards of High and East Barnet, Totteridge, Underhill, Brunswick Park, Coppetts and Oakleigh.

Theresa Villiers has applied for re-adoption to stand again for her seat with the Conservative Party, while Marisha Ray of the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party’s Phil Fletcher take their shot at the target.

Finchley and Golders Green

Covering wards Childs Hill, Finchley Church End, Garden Suburb, Golders Green, West and East Finchley and Woodhouse, this constituency has been held by notable candidates including Labour’s Rudi Vis and former PM Margaret Thatcher.

Until 2010 this had been a Labour spot since 1997, before Mike Freer of the Conservative Party took back the seat for his party and has held it since.

Mr Freer has also applied to stand again for the Conservative Party, against previous contender Adele Ward for the Green Party, and the Liberal Democrat candidate Jonathan Davies.

Hendon

Conservative MP Matthew Offord has represented the seat since 2010, taking it from current Assembly Member and former Labour MP Andrew Dismore, who had held the seat since 1997.

Matthew Offord has also applied to stand again, vying for the spot against Liberal Democrat hopeful Alasdair Hill and Ben Samuel of the Green Party, who also stood against Mr Offord in 2015.
