A Potters Bar supermarket has donated £500 to good causes and community events across the town.
Sainsbury’s on Darkes Lane has given £250 to the Potters Bar Carnival on June 11, and £250 in support of the Hawkshead Hobble, an all-ability race on May 14 held by the Royal Veterinary College's triathlon club.
The donations come from the Community Budget, a funding scheme partially funded by “Bag for Life” sales and aimed to support charitable and community projects in the area.
Store manager Karen Staples said: ‘Our store is at the heart of the local community and it is important we can play our part to support it.”
The carnival features a parade culminating in a fun day on Elm Court, with stalls from community organisations, a youth football competition and its first “Battle of the Bands” this year.
The inaugural Hawkshead Hobble is a 5 or 10km run, beginning at the Royal Veterinary College before winding cross-county and returning to the college.
