Tracey Wills, 44, of Ashfield Avenue, Bushey, who helped set up the society, said: "We had a stall at the fair on Saturday and we were playing his music on the tannoys from the church.

"People walked past and said how lovely it was to hear his music. He was and still well-loved in the Bushey area. Some people could not look at the poster we had of him because they were going to cry.

"We have also arranged a trip to Goring, in Oxford, and we are going to visit all the places he loved.

"The society is going to sign a wreath as well and leave a message saying we are from Bushey in case his family see. We want them to know how loved he is."

Born in East Finchley in 1963, Michael spent most of his childhood in Kingsbury, attending Kingsbury High School. His parents later moved to Radlett where he attended Bushey Meads School.

The 53-year-old former Bushey Meads School pupil, who rose to fame as the front man of Wham! and had chart-topping hits including Last Christmas, died at his home on Christmas Day. He was buried on Wednesday.

Rector of Bushey Neil Kelley said: "We were really blessed with excellent weather. A lot of people came out to support us.

"It was a great atmosphere. There were about 40 different stalls altogether with a lot of different foods available.

"The Kings Stag Pub provided a beer tent. It was a great day and brought the community together."

The society has also arranged a Too Funky School Disco: Tribute to George Michael disco which will be held at Bushey Meads School on July 1 and a book of condolences will be there for people to sign.

On April 30, a special service will be held at 3pm for George Michael at St James's Church for people to pay respects.
