A new campaign has popped up in Brent Cross shopping centre to encourage drivers to put their phones in the glove compartment to avoid new, tougher driving penalties.

New drivers face losing their licence if caught using their phones at the wheel, with more than 2,750 drivers caught in the first week of new measures.

The THINK! campaign is encouraging drivers to put their phones in the glove compartment, or “phone compartment”, to avoid six points and £200 fine.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling MP said: “Our message is simple and clear: do not get distracted by your mobile phone while driving.

“It may seem innocent, but holding and using your phone at the wheel risks serious injury and even death to yourself and other road users.

“Everyone has a part to play in encouraging their family and friends not to use their phones while driving – it is as inexcusable as drink driving.”

The poster units have a 3D mould of a glove compartment containing a flashing phone and when touched releases a ‘phone compartment’ sticker to be placed on the drivers’ own glove compartment.

These units also have a phone charging point and headphone slot to play the campaigns radio advert.
