A group of members of a residents association took part in a community clean up for the Great British Spring clean.

On March 19, around 35 volunteers from the Kingswood Residents Association (KRA), in Garston, gave up some of their Sunday to help clean areas of the Kingswood estate, armed with litter pickers, gloves, bin bags and the high vis vests provided by Watford Borough Council.

The KRA provided the tea urn along with tea, coffee and biscuits for all the volunteers and a scout group 6th North Watford Scouts provided the gazebo to house the tea station, as well as some of the scouts themselves to lend a hand.

The volunteers set off around the estate to tackle some of the areas where litter was being left. Working in groups they filled all the bags provided by the council.

Louise Kelly, on of the members, said: "The areas that the groups cleaned certainly looked much better at the end of the day and it was also a good opportunity for residents of the estate to meet and chat with other residents.

"It is hoped that more of these will be arranged in the near future so that as a community we can all make a difference to the area we all live in and share.

"All residents who helped said it was a really enjoyable afternoon and great to get the areas cleaned and litter free for everyone to benefit

The council even came and took away all the rubbish bags that had been filled."
