A team of young scientists are set to take their pioneering robotics skills worldwide.

HBS Vexplosions are a team of five girls aged 12-13 who recently claimed the top prize at the VEX IQ national robotics competition in Birmingham.

The girls, who go to Henrietta Barnet School, have now been submitted to the world championships which will take place in Kentucky, USA.

Team member Sophie Chan Ah Song said: “This is the first time we have been given the opportunity to participate in such a prestigious competition.

“We would love to be able to go and represent girls in STEM worldwide. This is our chance to prove girls can participate alongside boys in such amazing competitions.

“But we can’t do this without you, we need you to help us raise the money we need to represent the UK.”

Sophie, along with her teammates, Bathra Dinesh, Tahmina Sayfi, Hetal Mehta and Anna Ritschl, have set up a JustGiving page to raise the £8,000 they need for the trip’s travel expenses.

The championship takes place late next month (Apr 2017) and the girls’ crowdfunding page can be found here: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/hbsvexplosions?utm_id=60&utm_term=8dzB3kKXV
