Campaigners are calling on ladies in London to show solidarity with women who are fleeing war and persecution by joining a special Zumba class.

The event at Jacksons Lane in Highgate on Thursday (Feb 23) is fundraising for the charity Women for Refugee Women (WRW), organised by local dance-fitness group N6Zumba.

WRW director Natasha Walter, who will introduce this women-only event with a talk about the charity’s urgent challenges, explains: “We need to come together to show that refugees will always be welcome in our communities. This is a great time for Highgate to host an event to support women who are crossing borders to find safety.”

N6Zumba director Belkys Ledezma adds: “As an immigrant myself, I’m really concerned about the rising amount of racism after the Brexit vote, even in London.

“I want to show that Highgate will always welcome people from other countries, especially those escaping terrifying conditions. Let’s celebrate our community’s diversity by dancing together for a fairer and safer world.”
