The doors of a station have been expanded following feedback from commuters.

Elstree and Borehamwood train station's doors have been widened by Thameslink after numerous complaints and feedback from commuters.

The train company will also conduct a feasibility study into providing a new station building. The contract will be tendered early this year and funding agreements are already in place.

Andrew Sidgwick, Thameslink's programme manager said they wanted to do something about congestion getting in and out of the station booking hall in rush hour.

He said: "The finishing touches are still being applied but passengers are already noticing the difference.

"We have been steadily improving the station at Elstree and Borehamwood for our passengers with a new station forecourt, bus interchange and passenger footbridge with lifts.

"This, along with the close working partnership we have with the community including the fabulous work of First Impressions has led to many improvements and a welcoming gateway to the town.

"Next up is a feasibility study we are working on to replace the entire station building with a more modern, spacious structure that would deliver still further benefits to the thriving community."

These improvements, part-funded by Elstree & Borehamwood’s Town Council and its Youth Council, also included providing fixed seating on the forecourt, adding new planters, taming an overgrown area behind bus shelter C and putting in place new signage to help guide visitors at the station.
