70-year-old Hendon man killed following collision with car in Holders Hill Road

A 70-year-old man who was hit by a car has died in hospital.

Barinder Lal Duggal, of Hendon, was treated by the London ambulance service after he was struck by a car in Holders Hill Road, at the entrance of Hendon Cemetery, on Thursday, January 12.

Police attended the scene around 6.10pm and Mr Duggal was taken to hospital, where he condition deteriorated until he died on Saturday (January 28).

General practitioner doctors’ services are set to remain open seven days a week under a new NHS initiative set to roll out in April.

Barnet has become the first ever UK council to adopt an official definition for anti-Semitism.

The borough has recently been subject to a spate of prejudiced hate crimes and attacks, including a woman being pelted with eggs and a brick thrown through the window of a family home.

Following motions put forward by Labour leader Barry Rawlings and Conservative Edgware councillor Brian Gordon, the council now defines anti-Semitism by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) guidelines.

Labour figures warning of massive cuts to schools disputed by Conservative-controlled Barnet Council

Labour councillors have warned Barnet schools could be set to lose funding up to £497 per pupil.

Their word of warning comes from figures the opposition group calculated from the new National Funding Formula, cash freezes on funding per pupil and a 75 per cent cut to the Education Services Grant.

According to Barnet Labour’s numbers, schools will lose £23,181,571 by 2019, the equivalent of 622 teachers.

New Southgate man jailed by St Albans crown court after breaching an order against serious crimes from Herts police

A man has been sentenced to almost seven years in jail for conspiracy to burgle despite having come out of jail only six months before his new offence.

Calvin McKenzie, of Station Road in New Southgate, was hit with a serious crime prevention order (SCPO) when he was released from jail after in October 2015 serving for burglary and theft.

The 36-year-old appeared at St Albans crown court on January 20 in connection with a burglary at a home in Smallford, St Albans in March last year – which breaches his SCPO.
