A father jumped in front of a train and killed himself following an argument with his wife.
Patrick Caron jumped in front of the train, which was travelling at 110mph, at Potters Bar station on July 14, 2016.
The 57-year-old, who had a young daughter, had no history of mental health problems.
He left a carrier bag on the platform that contained a note addressed to British Transport Police. In the note, he apologised for the inconvenience his death would cause and included his next of kin details.
At an inquest held today, Hertfordshire Coroners’ Court heard that he also left note for his daughter at home.
A statement by Detective Sheela Chhaya said the train driver applied his emergency brakes after seeing Mr Caron jump, but he had to look away because he knew he would not stop in time.
When questioning detective Chhaya, Mr Caron’s sister asked why police did not inform her of her brother’s death until 8pm in the evening.
She said his death was “all over the internet” and that her family found out he had died after hearing a rumour.
Coroner Graham Danbury recorded a conclusion of suicide and wished the best for Mr Caron’s daughter.
