Eagle-eyed Eastenders fans were quick to point out the show mirrored real life events after a group of strangers lifted a double-decker bus off Martin Fowler.

While many fans suggested a bus would be far too heavy for the people of Albert Square to heave off Martin, many saw its striking similarity with an incident in Walthamstow two years ago.

A dramatic video from May, 2015, showed dozens of people attempting to lift a double decker bus to free a trapped cyclist.

A 55-year-old man riding a unicycle crashed into a 212 bus at 6pm while travelling along Hoe Street, Walthamstow.

The video shows the moment close to 100 people rushed to rescue the man and actually managed to lift the bus off his crushed legs.

Speaking after the incident, Bushra Khalid, said everyone was “traumatised".

She added: “We heard the poor man scream ‘Oh S**t’ as his legs were crushed underneath the wheel, his dreadlocks were trapped too and his face was full of agony.

Events in EastEnders seemed to mirror real life

“There was people of all different races and cultures and together they helped lift the bus off.”

On Monday’s episode, dad Martin was left similarly trapped under the wreckage after a shocking bus crash.

In last night’s show, Albert Square residents came together to heave the huge vehicle off Martin so he could escape free.

Many viewers thought the impressive feat very unlikely, and took to social media to post about it.

One wrote: "Anyone just watch Eastenders there hahaha as if Danny Dyer and 7 old biddies just lifted up a double decker bus."

Another agreed writing: "Eastenders doesn't alf have me buzzing, danny dyer and a few pensioners from the square deadlifting a bus."

One viewer researched the weight of a double decker bus to confirm their suspicions, writing: "Just googled the weight of a double decker bus... 12.65 TONNES... Danny Dyer & a couple of old ladies just deadlifted that #eastenders."

But the heroic events from Walthamstow were still clear in the minds for many, and they pointed out the connection.

One wrote: "For everyone tweeting about how ridiculous lifting a bus is on #Eastenders tonight it really happened in Walthamstow..."

Another wrote: "They basically recreated the moment they lifted the bus in Walthamstow #eastenders."

Another confirmed the similarity: "Ha! Copying Walthamstow with the old lifting the bus trick #EastEnders.”
