A number of anti-Semitic hate crimes have taken place in Edgware and Mill Hill this weekend.

Police are investigating several incidents which include criminal damage and the use of offensive language against the Jewish community.

On Friday (January 20), offensive graffiti was found in Daws Lane, Mill Hill, and a woman was pelted with eggs from a passing car in Edgwarebury Lane, Edgware, around 10.30pm.

Around 4-5am yesterday morning (Saturday, January 21), a brick was found to have been thrown through a window at a home in Hillside Gardens, Edgware, with anti-Semitic comments written on it.

Hours later, it was found a swastika symbol had been drawn in the condensation on a window in Watford Way, Mill Hill.

It is not yet known if the incidents are linked, though police are keen to speak to anyone who might have further information.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and are in the process of examining footage from CCTV cameras.

Local police will be conducting reassurance patrols in the area and are happy to speak with anyone who has any concerns.

Inspector Justin Zitver from Barnet police said: “While there is no evidence at this stage to suggest these offences are linked, it is of great concern members of our local community are being targeted in this way.

“The Met is committed to working with our partners to tackle all types of hate crime including the use of anti-Semitic language.

“We will have a number of ongoing reassurance patrols in the borough and I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of crime, or who has any information that will help our investigations to speak with officers.

“Together, we can make every effort to hold the offenders to account.”

No one has been arrested.
