A man who is “regularly inconvenienced” by football fans flooding his area with car on their way down to Wembley stadium is worried things will only get worse when Chelsea lease the ground.

Stanmore station is four stops from Wembley on the Jubilee line, making it popular for away-team fans from the north and midlands who drive to London from the motorway.

Wembley promotes itself as a “public transport venue” meaning it discourages drivers from parking up nearby and people tend to take the Tube or buses to the stadium for matches.

According to Mick Oliver, of Woodcroft Avenue, this means away fans tend to drive down to London, as close as they can to Wembley, and park up wherever they can in Stanmore to get the Tube.

Chelsea FC have paid millions to Wembley to lease the grounds for their home games when they begin renovating their home ground in Stamford Bridge, Fulham, from next year to 2020.

Mr Oliver said: “It is already bad enough when teams from north of London play at Wembley occasionally as their fans drive down to Stanmore and park absolutely everywhere.

“It blocks roadways, inconveniences commuters and brings all kinds of drunken behaviour to our streets which isn’t there the rest of the time.

“If Chelsea begin to play their home games at Wembley, this will happen on a much more regular basis as there are 11 teams from the north and midlands in the Premier League.

“It will make all Chelsea match days unbearable for Stanmore.

“We don’t fall under the remit of Brent council, who are the local authority in Wembley’s postcode, so no one really acknowledges the problems this games have and will bring us.”

The FA, representing Wembley stadium, declined to comment on any potential Chelsea tenancy.

Stanmore is not singled out by the stadium as a preferred location for drivers to park and travel information is released on their website prior to match days.
