The customer is always right. If only that were true.

We pub-goers know what annoys us - slow service, lousy beer, and quiz cheats perhaps.

But what really gets under the skin of landlords? We asked some landlords to let rip, vent their spleen and get their biggest bugbears off their chest.

Have you ever wondered why you struggle to get served? Maybe you're breaching the pub commandments....

Don’t buy rounds

Picture it: a busy Saturday night with lots of people waiting and a group decides to get some drinks, one by one by one. For the sake of the staff, at least pair up.

Arrive just before closing

It is five minutes before closing time and a couple of minutes are left to buy a drink. You’re told you won’t have long to drink and so assure the staff it's just a quick one, but then half an hour later you’re being asked to drink up and head home for the third time while the tired staff wait to clean up.

Edit the menu

If you don’t like something, or have an allergy, the staff completely understand. However, when you look through the menu, pick out an array of ingredients from different dishes and then create your own dinner, making things difficult for both bar staff and chefs, then things get annoying.

Over order food they don’t eat

This one came as a surprise to us at the Watford Observer, but it is worthy of feeling wound up. The head chef said plates coming back less than half empty is one of the most annoying things, wasting both food, stock, their time and your money.
