A first ever film festival for schools in the area has been announced.

As part of the 90th anniversary celebrations, Elstree Studios, in Borehamwood, is working alongside Elstree University Technical College (UTC), for the first ever film festival for schools across the area.

Schools will have a masterclass from a filmmaking professional, while Elstree UTC will allow pupils to use its equipment with tutorials, support and mentors to guide them while they create their films.

The film festival will celebrate the heritage and filmmaking of Elstree Studios and how it has impacted the lives and livelihood of those who live in Hertsmere.

Roger Morris, managing director at Elstree Studios, said: "Elstree Studios has and always will be an integral part of the community.

"The economic benefits reach much further than the people that just work inside the studios. For 90 years, Hertsmere residents have stories linking to the studios and we want to celebrate that by using our expertise in producing world-renowned films to inspire the filmmakers of the future."

The film festival project launched with a VIP reception at the studios attended by head teachers and local dignitaries to kick off the studio’s 90th anniversary celebrations.

Chris Mitchell, head teacher at Elstree UTC, said: "Elstree UTC has extensive and modern equipment and resources which we are opening up to participating schools.

"Our teachers and students are delighted to be working closely with the world-famous Elstree Studios and very excited to be supporting schools in our local area."

The film festival will take place in July and is for Years 5 and 8 in schools located in Hertsmere.
