As temperatures across the city start to plummet, the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan is opening emergency shelter for homeless people.

The Mayor has urged people on social media to keep warm this winter and to report any sightings of rough sleepers across the city to homeless charity Streetlink.

Streetlink allows people to alert the authorities of people sleeping rough in England and Wales.

It was reported that 7,580 people were sleeping rough in London alone in 2014/15.

Mr Khan urged people to look out for fellow Londoners and to keep warm this month.

Today will be another cold and crisp day at around 5 °C, and according to the Met Office, temperatures could drop to -4 °C.

Yellow warnings of ice have been issued for London and south east England over the past week, and drivers are advised to take extra care on the roads.
