MORE than 200 people enjoyed Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council’s annual Christmas Concert with the BBC Elstree band on Wednesday.

Each year the town council host the event for the local community as well as other events, including the Christmas lights switch on and winter coach trips.

Members of the town’s Youth Council helped with the preparation for the event by handing out complementary hot drinks during the interval.

Audience member, Yvonne Taylor, said: “It was a brilliant start to Christmas.”

The programme included music from the original Star Wars films, which were filmed at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Disney favourites and a rendition of Howard Blake’s The Snowman.

Another audience member, Richard Ashley, said: “It was a great show with an amazing programme – especially the Dad’s Army theme tune which got my toes tapping and paid tribute to Jimmy Perry OBE, former honorary president of the band.”

The evening even had a display and book-signings from a local authors group, ‘Writers in the Wood’ who managed to raise a collection of more than £100 for the Mayor’s annual charity, The Elstree and Borehamwood Museum

Elstree and Borehamwood Town Mayor Cllr Clive Butchins said: “It is always a pleasure to welcome this band to their ancestral home of Elstree and I include their musical director, Andrew Morley, and their presenter, Robert Benton, in that welcome.”
