Hertfordshire residents are being asked to give their views on the county council's spending priorities for next year as it seeks to save £75m by 2020.

You can give your views in an online survey at www.hertsdirect.org/yourpriorities1718 before Sunday December 11.

“Since 2010, we have saved almost £250m from our annual budget and looking ahead we estimate that a further £75m of savings will need to be found by 2020,” said Chris Hayward, Cabinet Member for Resources and Performance.

“We need to make some important decisions about how we allocate money and we want your views. If you live in Hertfordshire these decisions affect you, so please have your say.”

Last week, Councillor Hayward met with a range of community leaders to discuss how to meet the needs of Hertfordshire’s residents, and to get their views on the council’s budget priorities.

He added: “Over the coming months, we will work with colleagues and partners to decide how further savings will be made in order to balance our books.

“We continue to seek out ways of making efficiencies, working in partnership and being innovative, but given the tough financial challenge we face, this can only go so far. We want to get the right outcomes for our community while giving best value for money and it is vital that we hear from local people.”

Hertfordshire County Council’s draft budget will be discussed at a meeting of the cabinet on January 23 and will then be reviewed at the various panel meetings through January and early February.

The final budget and council tax levy will be agreed at full council on February 21.
