A 16-year-old boy has died after a road crash on his moped left him critically injured in hospital.

Police were called to Buxted Road at the junction with Ashurst Road in North Finchley where a car and a moped had collided around 5.50pm on Thursday, November 17.

The boy riding the moped, who has not been named, was taken to a North London hospital where he died on Friday (November 25).

His next of kin have been informed and an inquest will be scheduled at Barnet coroner’s court in due course.

At the scene of the incident, the driver and passengers of a black Nissan Pixo abandoned the car and fled on foot via Ashurst Road and Woodhouse Lane.

Around 11pm the same day, a 22-year-old man was arrested at a North London police station on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving with no licence, no insurance and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He has been bailed to date in January pending further enquiries.

Anyone who saw anything at the scene or has any information has been asked asked to call the Met police’s witness line on 020 8991 9555 or the police via the non-emergency line on 101.
