International pop star and X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger was joined on stage at the Wembley Arena by a seriously ill 10-year-old girl from Mill Hill.

Katie, from Mill Hill, sang Ain’t no Mountain High Enough alongside the ex-member of The Pussy Cat Dolls, as part of a choir of 14 seriously ill children for The Rays of Sunshine Concert.

The choir is made up of 14 brave and inspirational seriously ill children who have all had their wishes granted by the charity that grants wishes for children living with serious of life-limiting illness, across the UK.

Katie is currently living in remission for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia – a cancer of the white blood cells. Rays of Sunshine granted the 10-year-old’s greatest wish to go to Lapland.

Nicole surprised the children ahead of the concert while they were in rehearsal.

Other performers included Shawn Mendes, fresh from winning a BBC Radio 1 Teen Award for Best International Solo Artist and Best Single for Stitches, Fleur East, Conor Maynard, Louisa Johnson, Lawson and James TW.

Jane Sharpe, CEO of Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity, said: “The event was more sensational than we could have ever hoped. Looking out onto the audience and seeing so many of our wish families enjoying the show certainly made all the hard work worthwhile. We are so grateful to each and every one of the artists for giving up their time to perform and to SSE for supporting the event and making it possible for us to allow so many of our beneficiaries to attend.”

SSE has been the title sponsor of The SSE Arena, Wembley since June 2014 and due to their support the charity was able to offer 2,000 complimentary tickets to other unwell children who have had wishes granted.
