A tennis legend who made a “huge contribution” to a Hendon tennis club has been commemorated with memorial plaques and a court named after him.

Brampton Lawn tennis club, in Prothero Gardens, threw a special all-day tennis event to remember their honorary president, who passed away in November last year.

A ceremony was held to name the club’s courts after Geoff on Sunday October 9, who not only contributed at Brampton Lawn but was also active in several other tennis clubs over the decades.

Over 90 guests attended the naming of the courts, including Geoff's wife Lilla, daughter and son-in-law Holly and Adam Greenwood and grandchildren Isaac and Anna.

Coach Jonty Solomons ran the morning tennis games for over 40 juniors and in the afternoon, they were joined by two former British Davis Cup players, Danny Sapsford and Luke Milligan, who ran the adult sessions.

Club committee member Daryl Green said: “The showers stayed away and a glorious sit-down tea was served.

“It was truly a memorable day for everybody to celebrate Geoff Brown's tennis life.”

Speeches at the dinner thanked Geoff for “devoting his life to tennis” and “pioneering indoor tennis in the UK in the 1980s”.

Donations to Brampton’s tennis related charity will support the club’s community outreach programme.
