A Finchley pooch has risen above the rest to become top dog and represent a Jewish charity for the disabled in a competition judged by a famous face.

Two-year-old Lili, who lives in Finchley with her owners Sara and Doron Jacobs, has been selected as the new ‘PETron’ who now will patronise the Jewish Blind and Disabled charity.

She was selected alongside three-year-old Lola, from Kensington, when TV personality Jonathan Ross could not choose between the two.

More than 20 pets entered the contest, with their owners sending in photos designed to raise the biggest smile from the chat show host.

Jonathan said: “It was very difficult to pick a winner as every photo made me smile.

“In the end I just couldn’t choose between Lili and Lola so decided they should share the prize.”

Both will receive a special goodie bag from PetsPyjamas, a website “for stylish pets and their owners”.

Jewish Blind & Disabled is the only Jewish charity providing mobility apartments for adults who are physically disabled or vision impaired.

The charity’s ‘PETron’ campaign has been running for the last eight months, with supporters signing up their pets to help make a difference to someone’s life.

Its annual competition is open to families who donate £5 a month to the campaign, while other goodies include specialised toys and tags for their pets.

Jewish Blind & Disabled Chief Executive Hazel Kaye said: “We had a lot of fun looking at all the entertaining photos sent in of our wonderful ‘PETrons’.

“Best of all is that every single ‘PETron’ helps provide a life of independence, dignity and choice for physically disabled or vision impaired adults.”

Families who want to register their pet as a PETron can email Gemma Goodman on gemma@jbd.org.
