Alexandra Park, in Muswell Hill, has been voted one of the nation’s top ten parks, after members of the public voted in the Green Flag Award’s People's Choice contest.

Voters chose the 196 acre park, which is situated around the legendary historic entertainment venue Alexandra Palace, due to the array of landscaped gardens, woodland, open grassland and various attractions including the boating lake, cafes and a pitch-and-putt course.

The park also boasts some of the best panoramic views across the capital city and was visited by around 2.8 million people in the past year, with thousands attending events such as the Fireworks Festival and Summer Festival.

The People’s Choice gives the public a platform to choose their favourite parks, rather than a panel of judges having the final say and this year, more than 30,000 people got involved as the scheme celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Other parks ranked alongside Alexandra Park in the People's Choice contest include, Clifton Park, in Rotherham, Mote Park, in Maidstone and Victoria Park, in Tower Hamlets.

Mark Evison, the manager of the park in Muswell Hill, is full of gratitude towards everyone who voted.

He says: “We are delighted to have been placed in the top ten and would like to thank the park users who voted for us and continue to support the park.

“The achievement would not have been possible without all the hard work of our grounds staff and volunteers from the Friends of the Park.”
