A symbolic planting of 150 snowdrops marked the start of One World Week in Finchley.

Members of the community met at St. Mary-at-Finchley in Hendon Lane, as the 15th annual One World Week peace walk began.

One World Week (OWW) is a charity made up of people who work together to build a peaceful and sustainable world.

The peace walks began in response to the 9/11 attacks that devastated America.

The 150 snowdrops planted in the church grounds, will this year, mark the 1.5m children who died during the Holocaust, with the snowdrops will be in full bloom for the annual Holocaust Memorial Service in January next year.

Peace walks took place all over the country and people meet at St Mary at Finchley Church with representatives from churches all over the borough last weekend.

Chairwoman Lynn Radnedge has been part of One World Week in Finchley for 33 years.

Ms Radnedge said: "It’s our way of showing love and respect to our Jewish friends and also honouring OWW which brings together people from all faiths and nationalities in a spirit of peace and tolerance.

"This year’s theme “Acting Together for One World in Peace” was reflected throughout the day in prayers, videos and music and a colourful poster and peace banner created by children of St. Mary’s."
