Borehamwood and Elstree are generally nice places with a great film heritage but there are many problems people of the area will only know about.

1) Traffic in Shenley Road or around Borehamwood in general

Everybody has heard about the increasing cars around the town and in particular Shenley Road. It can take up to an hour to get down the stretch of road during rush hour.

In an evening it takes 20 minutes.

Borehamwood Times:

2) The deadly Shenley Road roundabout

It is terrifying when driving towards Elstree and Borehamwood train station and you know the deadly Shenley Road roundabout is coming up.

Despite having four exits it seems no one abides by the Highways code. Buses, taxis, cars, lorries, vans all pull out without thinking about the right of way.

3) Over development in the area

Every corner you turn there is another building going up. Borehamwood was described once as being a 'dumping ground for Hertsmere buildings'.

Can Borehamwood's infrastructure survive?

Borehamwood Times:

4) Boulevard shopping park is a nightmare to park

Any time of the day you can attempt to park in the Boulevard shopping park but it is usually dangerous with cars moving in and out without looking.

Pedestrians walk blindly across roads without looking. That is even before looking for a parking space. It can take at least half an hour to find a space.

Borehamwood Times:

5) Trains are often late/never turn up

Elstree and Borehamwood train station owners Govia Thameslink has been under a lot of scrutiny over the past few months with trains constantly being late or not turning up at all.

Let's hope this changes soon. Getting into London should not be a long winded process.

With the station celebrating 150 years in 2018 major improvements need to be completed.

Borehamwood Times:

6) Big Brother finale fireworks

Whether or not you love the programme, the fireworks used in the finale do cause trouble for neighbours and pets.

Do we really need that many fireworks celebrating the fact that Joe Bloggs has won a competition staying inside a house?

Borehamwood Times:

7) Borehamwood is not in London

Even the Mayor of London mistakenly thought Elstree Studios was in London when actually it is in Hertfordshire.

Should the London boundaries be changed?

Borehamwood Times:

8) Street lights turn off at midnight

Walking around at night is always daunting any time of the year but you always have the reassurance of street lights to guide your way.

Not in Hertsmere. All street lights turn off at midnight leave you to walk blindly down the streets.

With the nights getting darker and colder it is a good job most phones now have a torch.

Borehamwood Times: Lights off in district starts tomorrow
