A father has raised more than £15,600 for a hospice by running a half marathon in memory of his baby son.

Steven Brodie, of Whetstone, took part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 9 October with a team of family and friends in Hyde Park.

He made the 13-mile run to raise money for Haven House, the hospice which took in his son Isaac Maxwell who died at two weeks old in February this year due to a tumour in his brain stem.

Isaac was made comfortable at the hospice, alongside father Steven and mother Rachel, to live out his short life in peace and make happy memories.

Steven recruited nine friends and family members to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon and they all worked together to raise around £27,000 in total for the charity.

He said: “I remember saying to a friend a year or so ago that I would never do any kind of half marathon or marathon.

“I figured it would take far too much effort and commitment, but then I had a beautiful baby boy, Isaac.

“He went outside, he spent time with his mum and dad, he met family and we took wonderful photos and made some wonderful memories.

“Isaac inspired me to get off my backside and do something that I didn't think I could.”

Since 2003, Haven House Children’s Hospice has provided palliative and holistic care in North London for over 650 babies, children and young people (birth-19) who have life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We are so grateful to Steven and Rachel for all of their incredible fundraising.

“What they have achieved together with their family and friends for our hospice is nothing short of remarkable and will help us support other families in need.”
