Last month we announced that nominations were once again open for our ‘In Edgware We Care’ campaign – in partnership with The Broadwalk Centre – which offers £500 worth of shopping centre vouchers to grassroots groups and charities to boost their neighbourhood projects, community spaces or services.

After receiving multiple nominations for the second donation, three finalists have been selected and it is up to readers you, the readers, to decide who will receive this month’s offering of £500 worth of Sainsbury’s vouchers.

The finalists are:

Harrow Carers, Arts for Healing

Arts for Healing has been running for over three years to give respite and relaxation for carers and the cared-for within Harrow.

The Arts for Healing group meets twice a month at Savoy Court Community Centre. Each month they arrange different activities – card making, painting, jewellery making, knitting, etc – giving members the opportunity to enjoy their hobbies and be creative, which in turn relaxes them. It also gives them some free time from their caring role within a secure group who can listen and find solutions to their problems or worries or just chat over a cup of coffee.

If Harrow Carers, Arts for Healing group were to win the £500 Sainsbury’s voucher it would enable them to purchase new equipment to continue their services and also extend their services to more people.

Colindale Foodbank

Colindale Foodbank provides three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. Part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, they work to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

Last year Colindale Foodbank handed out 2,916 emergency food packs – statistics now reporting that one in five people in the UK live below the poverty line. Winning the £500 Sainsbury’s voucher would enable them to purchase vital sundries for those in need within the local area.

Larches Community

The Larches Community is a registered charity in the heart of Edgware, set up in 1995 by those who were concerned about the lack of provision for young people and adults with learning disabilities.

They aim to make a difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities and autism through educational, social and cultural activities. The Larches Community is located in the heart of Edgware where they run daily educational and cultural programmes for people with learning disabilities so they can discover, explore and develop their own skills and abilities - encouraging them to enjoy and be part of the community that they live in.

With a £500 Sainsbury’s voucher The Larches could purchase equipment and refreshments for their training courses and events for both the general public and those with learning disabilities and/or autism.
