A community fun day to celebrate the 90th birthday of the Queen and Winnie The Pooh was held over the weekend.

Organised by Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council and Aldenham Renaissance the fun day at Aldenham Country Park saw more than 100 people attend.

The day had a large number of activities including Best Dressed Teddy Bear, a 24ft tall scout climbing wall, golf putting machines and dog competitions.

Elstree and Borehamwood Town Cllr Pat Strack said: “It was wonderful to have so many community partners come to support this first joint initiative.

“Fire, police, Youth Connexions, library service, scouts and the visually impaired club all supported the event.

“Grants from Hertsmere Borough Cllrs Caroline Clapper, Alan Plancey, Morris Bright and Harvey Cohen and Hertfordshire County Cllr Leon Reefe meant we could provide more varied activities.

“We hope this will be an event we can repeat. It was fantastic to support such a great facility. A heel in the crown indeed.”

Wildlife expert Simon Braidman had a large turnout for a nature walk and then went on walkabout with mini beasts to show the children.

The Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust brought a mask making activity and were able to report back good engagement.

The teddy bears picnic was moved inside to Aldenham Country Playground hall joined by Winnie and later Tigger.

The participants were judged and prizes presented by Elstree and Borehamwood Mayor Cllr Clive Butchins.

There were no losers and after the first and second prizes were given, all the children who took part received a very special knitted teddy.

The next park event will be this October half term week so visitors who missed the event because of the weather can join in with spooky fun and pumpkin carving.
