A park has received funding to help build a new toddlers' play area.

Shenley Park Trust was given £200 from Hertsmere Borough Councillor Anthony Spencer who allocated some of his designated funds from the council's Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme.

This money gives each of the councillors £500 to spend on projects throughout the year in their ward.

Cllr Spencer said: "Our scheme is all about funding small projects in areas to benefit communities.

"Shenley Park is a space well loved by the community ranging in age from toddlers to adults.

"The addition of a play area for toddlers will be much used and appreciated by parents and children alike."

The play area will be developed and ready by early 2017 and the project arose in May after a discussion on social media.

Linzie Barr, from the play area's fundraising committee said: "The play area will be ready for the families of this and other communities to use and enjoy.

"After a discussion on social media with local mums that frequently use the park's tea rooms about the lack of a suitable play area for their toddlers the project arose in May."

On August 21, the group held a fundraising family fun day which was attended by the Mayor of Hertsmere Cllr Peter Rutledge along with more than 700 members of the public.
