Finchley’s United Synagogue hosted more than 300 ladies who enjoyed a charity fashion show.

The ‘Chai Fashion with Averyl’ was organised by Chair cancer care on Wednesday September 14, and hailed as a success for raising more than £90,000.

Chai Cancer Care is the Jewish Community's Cancer Support Organisation, providing services for patients, families and friends affected by cancer.

The show showcased the Autumn/Winter 2016 collection from Averyl’s Emporium on Finchley Road, including designers, Boss, Louisa Cerano, Crea, Escada and more.

Joyce Misrahi, a cancer survivor, said: “My journey has not been an easy one. I tried to be strong for my children, so that life would go on as usual. But that was an incredible weight on my shoulders.

“It is very hard for me to ask for help, as I’m usually the one giving advice or helping others. None of my friends thought to recommend Chai as maybe they thought I was better and had moved on so I kept looking for somewhere to turn.

“I finally realised I needed help, but had no idea where to go. I found Chai and I called them. From the moment I walked in those doors they have helped me through my journey and to regain my inner strength.”

Chai reported that in one day, ten children all under the age of 14, asked for help after learning a family member had been diagnosed with cancer.

Chairwoman, Louise Hager, said: “All the money raised from Chai Fashion with Averyl will go towards the Children, Teenage and Family Service.

"We have chosen this particular service because of what happened on June 27. A day that really brought home to us the urgency and need.”
