The community was given the chance to learn skills on a BMX thanks to a million pound in funding.

Leecliffe Big Local BMX Event was held on August 23 in Aycliffe Park, Borehamwood, and a group of children braved the 30 degree heat to develop and improve their cycling skills in coaching sessions by professional BMX coaches.

Parents were able to watch the racing whilst their children got their first taste of BMX racing and prizes were given to all the winners were donated by Hawks and British Cycling, from Hayes in Middlesex.

Grandmother Bernice John said: "It was a really enjoyable day with my family and grandchildren.

"The event was well organised and it is great to see the children getting out riding and learning about a new sport."

Leecliffe Big Local is one of 150 areas nationally to be allocated a million pound and has ten years in which to spend the money and they are hoping to make this into a regular event.

Chairman Donna Inwood said: "It is a great sport accessible to everyone in the community.

"Young people have told us that they have nowhere to ride their bikes, which is becoming a problem in Borehamwood.

"We are hoping this is a positive way of trying to deal with the issue as well as introducing a new sport."
