A NEW Edgware boxing club is opening its doors to people of all ages within the community.

Lilly Mahdavi and her partner David Tully have turned the upstairs of an old derelict warehouse in Ballards Mews, Edgware, into Tully’s Boxing Club.

Ms Mahdavi worked in Edgware for over 20 years, before moving to Watford last year.

Mr Tully is a former boxer and has a martial arts background. He will work as a trainer in classes and one on one sessions.

Ms Mahdavi said: “We have been running a few classes already, and we’ve had a minimum of 10 people turn up at each one, and everyone has really enjoyed them.

“We want to open our doors and take on children and young people who cannot afford classes, as it gives them something to do. I have lived in Edgware for a long time and there is not a lot for young people to do, but there has always been a sense of community there.

“I would really like to mention Royston Dunn, who very kindly made a donation to the club, which he felt is something the area needs. He has been a great friend and very supportive, and a big thank you to Fit4less Southwark for our flooring.

“We have done a lot off our own bats and relied on the kindness of strangers, but the support has been amazing and everything is coming together.”

The club will hold its official opening on Saturday September 3 from 2pm, where people are invited to take a look at what’s on offer.

Men’s classes will run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and a class for women only will take place every Wednesday.

The gym will open from 9am to 9pm every day.
