Six parks across Hertsmere have all retained their Green Flag Awards this year.

Green Flags are a national standard highlighting quality green spaces which are well managed.

The King George Recreation Ground, in Bushey, is the park with the longest running award history and managed to hold its accolade for 18 years.

Fishers Field Nature Reserve, Bushey, received a special Green Flag Community Award for the eighth time in recognition of work carried out by volunteers who manage the site in partnership with Hertsmere Borough Council.

Bushey Rose Garden received Green Heritage Site accreditation because of its historic features and standard of conservation for the sixth year in a row.

Hertsmere Borough Councillor Seamus Quilty, in charge of the environment, said: “What a great way to mark Love Parks Week.

“We are absolutely delighted to be awarded with these Green Flag awards for yet another year.

“Parks and green spaces are important to local people and essential to healthy, happy communities so we’ll continue to work hard to maintain these special places where residents can come together to rest, relax, play, exercise and have fun.

“Our parks offer a wide range of recreational activities to local people of all ages and are free to use. Let’s hope the rest of the summer brings us some nice weather so everyone can make the most of them as the school holidays get under way.”

Oakmere Park in Potters Bar received the annual award 14 times, Aberford Park in Borehamwood has held a Green Flag for nine years and Parkfield in Potters Bar has been awarded eight times.
