A young boy was invited as a VIP guest at the 2016 Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Bradley Stickland, 12, of Thirsk Road, Borehamwood, is a patient at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, and was born with a condition called dysmotility.

Dysmotility is a condition in which muscles of the digestive system become impaired and changes in the speed, strength or coordination in the organs occurs.

Bradley joined a small group of other Great Ormond Street patients who are fanatical about Formula 1 where he met Esteban Gutierrez and Romain Grosjean.

Bradley’s mum Tracey Stickland said: “We had a fantastic day at Silverstone. It was freezing cold but it was an amazing day.

“Bradley got them all to sign hats and he was able to sit in one of the cars before they started the race.

“It was a really lovely experience. Bradley has always liked Formula 1 as his granddad is a big fan and they watch it together.

“I am not a Formula 1 fan but it was a really good day. I am really thankful to Great Ormond Street Hospital for organising this.”

On the day of the race, the group were given some information and a schedule for the day telling them what was planned for the day including watching the race.

According to his mum, Bradley is still talking about the race and during their visit they met the family members of another racer.

The members of the family gave him a hat and he told them he is hoping Lewis Hamilton wins the race.

His mother said he could not have anything at the worst place or the worst time but the family were used to it.

The trip was organised by Great Ormond Street Hospital where Bradley has been a patient on multiple occasions.

So far the 12-year-old has had 31 operations and will be having a major operation over the next few months.

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity needs to raise about £100 million a year to help rebuild and refurbish the hospital, provide modern equipment and to fund research.
