To mark the upcoming Armed Forces Day this Saturday, the Mayor of Hertsmere led a ceremony on Monday.

The Mayor, Cllr Peter Rutledge, was joined by council staff, councillors, members of the Royal British Legion, Hertfordshire Constabulary and religious representatives at the ceremony on June 20 at Hertsmere Borough Council.

Across the country similar ceremonies took palace in a universal show of support to honour Britain’s Armed Forces.

Mayor Cllr Rutledge said: “I was honoured to lead Hertsmere’s ceremony for Armed Forces Day.

“It is so important that we stop and recognise the contribution our armed forces make in securing our safety now and for future generations.”

A bugler, Adrian Temple, played The Last Post following which a minute’s silence was observed.

Cllr Brenda Batten, the Armed Forces Covenant Champion, said: “We recognise the sacrifice and commitment that our Armed Forces make to protect the country and its people.”
