A school has been given funds to expand in order to create more school places.

Hertfordshire County Council has approved plans to fund the expansion of Hertswood Academy in Borehamwood.

The expansion will be part of a wider plan to rebuild the Academy and will increase school admission places by 30 pupils.

Head teacher Peter Gillett said: “With our academic results at GCSE and A-Level exceeding national standards and increasing demand for student places at our academy, we are delighted that Hertfordshire County Council have approved plans to fund the future expansion of our school.

"This will ensure our brand new world-class academy building fully serves our outstanding local community.”

The expansion will hopefully be able to accommodate more pupils in the future.

David Williams, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “We are committed to making sure that every child in Hertfordshire has a place at one of our great schools so they can reach their full potential.

"That means ensuring the right number of school places in the right location.

"We will continue to invest money to ensure that where the county’s population grows we build the appropriate infrastructure.”
