More than 50 runners and volunteers took part in the celebrations of the first birthday of the Aldenham Park Run.

Since its launch in June 2015 the weekly run, which takes place every Saturday at 9am, has seen more and more people taking part.

On Saturday June 18, the run celebrated its first birthday where Michael McEnhill, of Cedar Cottage, Shenley, won the Men’s annual points competition.

Mr McEnhill said: “That I managed to receive a prize for becoming first male in points section of events just blew me away.

“More so when my health was not at the best, it provided an especial fillip to me.

“I do not think I can claim credit for any other particular achievement, except perhaps, for the time I gained a winners medal for a tug of war competition held in Catterick Camp when I was a mere squaddie soldier.

“And in all honesty, I swear it was down to the other rugged members of our army team, pulling not only the rope, but me with it, determined that we on the momentous occasion took away the first prize.”

This Saturday the Elstree and Borehamwood Town Mayor, Clive Butchins, will be attending the start of the race, in conjunction with the Town Council, to give out prizes.

It costs nothing to join in, you simply need to register before your first run and remember to bring a printed copy of your bar code as otherwise you won't get a time.

Car parking is £2 upon production of your barcode.
