Nursery children were encouraged to think about their safety first last week as they took part in Child Safety Week.

The children at Busy Bees Nursery in Shenley learnt about the importance of turning off technology during the safety week which runs annual from June 6 to 12.

Child Safety Week, which is an awareness week run by Child Accident Prevention Trust, provides an opportunity for staff to use engaging activities to get children into good habits from an early age.

Nursery manager Zara Habib said: “Technology is now such a huge part of everyday life, we want to make sure that children are picking up good habits as unfortunately accidents can occur in everyday life.

“We want to make sure that children are happy, healthy and confident and that includes making them aware of some of the dangers that they might face when it comes to being distracted by technology.”

On Tuesday June 7, local police officers visited the nursery and taught the children about safety and let them try their uniform hats.

The children were also able to sit in the police car and hear the sirens.

Staff reminded children to put down the technology when crossing the road or at times when they need to concentrate to make sure they are not distracted.
