Police have called for information about a distinctive car that may be linked to a series of burglaries.

The dark blue Volkswagen Golf, which has silver wing mirrors and damage to the bonnet near the VW logo, has been seen being driven away from break-ins around south Hertfordshire.

It has a 2014 number plate beginning EO64.

One burglary took place in Chase Avenue, Potters Bar, on Friday May 13 at 7.20pm.

Another took place in The Maltings, Hunton Bridge, overnight between Friday May 13 and Saturday 14.

Further break-ins took place in Neville Close, Potters Bar, on Saturday at around 11am, and in Oakmere Lane, Potters Bar, overnight between Friday and Saturday.

Another took place in Links Drive, Elstree, on Saturday morning at 10.50am.

Two men are suspected to be responsible and have been seen driving the Volkswagen Golf away from the crimes.

One is described as white and the other of mixed race. They were both reported to be wearing grey tracksuits and hats and are believed to be in their early 20s.

Police have increased patrols in the areas where the crimes took place.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Matt Phillips from the Hertsmere Local Crime Unit, said: “I am appealing for any witnesses to these offences, or if anyone who has seen a vehicle fitting the description of the dark blue VW Gold in their local area, to please get in contact with us as soon as possible.

“Perhaps you recognise the men described or have seen the car where you live? Or perhaps you know someone who owns a dark blue VW Golf that has sustained similar damage to the front of bonnet and has distinctive silver wing mirrors?

“Any information you provide, no matter how seemly insignificant, could help us with our enquiries and put a stop to these burglaries.”

Anyone with information should call the police on the non-emergency number 101 or 999 if they see a crime taking place.
