A primary school has announced its funding agreement with the Department for Education has been signed.

The Yavneh College Academy Trust confirmed that the primary school will definitely open in September 2016 as planned.

Parents who have recently received conditional offers will receive a formal offer of a place at the school in the next few days and will be able to confirm acceptance for their child.

Sue Nyman, chairman of the Yavneh College Academy Trust, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to finally confirm the opening of Yavneh Primary School.

“I would like to thank the Department for Education for all their support to get this far.

“It is an incredibly exciting development in the educational landscape of Hertfordshire.”

Currently Yavneh College, in Borehamwood, is the highest non-selective state school and offers GCSE and A Level examinations.

The new primary school will be built on the same location as the current one and will be a free school meaning it can decide the curriculum.

As the school will have ages from four to 18, the school will be able to fast track some of the more gifted students and provide extra support for the older students who are struggling.

Spencer Lewis, head teacher of Yavneh Schools, said: “Our vision of providing first class Jewish and general education to children of four to 19 years is finally coming to fruition and we could not be happier.”

Oliver Dowden, MP for Hertsmere, also received confirmation from Lord Nash, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools, that Yavneh Primary School will open in September 2016, with a maximum capacity of 420 places for pupils aged four to 11.

Mr Dowden said: “Having worked closely with Yavneh and with parents since the beginning of their bid, I was absolutely delighted to receive the letter from Lord Nash, confirming that Yavneh Primary School will open in September 2016.

“This is great news for the community, providing much needed additional primary school places.

“I look forward to visiting Yavneh Primary very soon.”
