A weather warning was issued for south west Hertfordshire.
The Met Office is predicting heavy showers and thunderstorms will break out this afternoon, with the possibility of hail stones.
Experts say that the warning, which runs until 9pm today, could result in standing water and reduced visibility for drivers.
The Met Office warned of difficult driving conditions.
