A town twinning group in Radlett will close by the end of 2016 as they struggle to attract new members.

The Radlett and Aldenham International Friendship Association (RAIFA) was founded in 1980.

Since then they have worked alongside their twin towns in Germany and France to arrange visits but now the group will close.

Chairman, Clive Glover, said: “RAIFA has been struggling in recent years to attract new members to continue Town Twinning arrangements with our partners in Louveciennes and Lautertal.

“Despite our best efforts and a recent very successful visit to Lautertal we have recently concluded that it will not be possible to continue and so we need to wind up RAIFA as an organisation.

“We thank everyone who has supported us over the 35 years since it was founded in 1980, both here in Radlett and Aldenham and all our friends in our twin town, Lautertal in Germany and Louveciennes in France.”

The twinning group presented a red telephone box to Reichenbach, Germany, and it has recently been turned into a free book exchange.

During the annual Fete des Fleurs (Festival of Flowers), in Louveciennes, the group would send a teenage girl from Radlett each year to the town.

Here she would join a local girl and others from their other twin towns in Germany and Romania.

The group of teenage girls would be the Queen and Maids of Honour in a parade of floats all covered in fresh floats as part of the festival.

RAIFA will be inviting their German partners for final visit to Radlett this summer in return for their visit there last year.

Aldenham Parish Council will formally notify the Mayors of Lautertal and Louveciennes of the decision to stop the twinning arrangements.
