As part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival, Year 7 pupils performed their version of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

The Year 7 pupils at Edge Grove School in Radlett put on the production which gave them the opportunity to perform Shakespeare live on a professional stage.

The performance was held at Watersmeet Theatre in Rickmansworth on November 5 where they were given the chance to act professionally in front on a real audience.

Head of drama, Lucy Neale, said: “The children were truly animated by the whole experience, it was a privilege for them to have the opportunity to perform in front of a live paying audience on a real theatre stage.

“It’s certainly an experience they’ll never forget and one that our school is very proud to have been a part of.”

Many of the pupils also worked behind the scenes managing props while others coordinated sound and lighting alongside the theatre’s professional technicians.

Headteacher at Edge Grove Ben Evans said: “I would like to offer my congratulations to our very talented pupils and also to Miss Neale for her perseverance and support throughout.

“This has been a wonderful festival to be part of, anything that inspires children to be more creative, resourceful and to try new things, should be encouraged.”

Shakespeare School’s Festival is the largest youth drama festival in the UK and offers pupils of all ages, abilities and backgrounds the opportunity to perform Shakespeare.
