A RESTAURANT which specialises in corn-fed rotisserie chickens has been crowned the Harrow Times Restaurant of the Year.

Serving a selection of hearty dishes from chicken reared on Suffolk farms, Stanmore’s Pecking Order in The Broadway was presented with the award after being judged the best place to eat in Harrow - beating off competition from across the borough.

The project of owners Dhilon Solanki and Vishav Roma, the chicken-themed restaurant – which has a host of quirky pictures of chickens filling the walls – won the award

The menu, although compact, offers a range of dishes, from chicken wings and buttermilk popcorn chicken served with a variety of sauces to burgers and an array of sides.

Dhilon, 33, who lives in Croxley Green, said: “I have always been a foodie, we used to go out to eat all the time.

“The idea is to have a small menu, not over-complicated, but to give customers a good choice at the same time. All our food is fresh, none of it is brought in or frozen.

“The burger boom has taken off massively so we didn’t want to get in on that, but chicken is something different and we’ve still made sure not to alienate the burger fans or the vegetarians.

“There was a lot of sweat and tears trying to get it all together but it was all worth it.”

Vishav added: “We went out to eat all the time so we knew what we wanted to create – we wanted a welcoming atmosphere, for all ages, with great but simple and fresh food.

“The whole ethos is simple but well.”

“Pecking Order is so accessible, we have families here in the mornings with our children’s menu, groups of guys and girls for the lunch time rush, and in the evening it has become a great place for a date night so it is for everyone.”

Having only opened seven months ago in time for the Easter weekend, the pair say they are incredibly proud to have won the Restaurant of the Year award.

Dhilon said: “I’m really pleased with the win, especially with it coming so soon after we opened.

“It was literally through our staff talking it up to customers and letting them know we’ve been nominated, and social media played a huge part too.

“We’re also evolving and listening to the community and what they want and I think that has helped us get the award.”

Vishav added: “A lot of the customers were really happy to get involved once they’ve found out we’ve been nominated, which was great.

“Some of the restaurant who were nominated to were ones we have visited before, so to be put alongside them and come first is an incredible honour.”

Pecking Order opens from 6pm to 11pm on Mondays, 12pm to 4pm and 6pm to 11pm from Tuesday to Thursday, 12pm to 11pm on Friday and Saturday 12pm to 10.30pm on Sunday.
