A youth group in Borehamwood has officially opened.

Funky Friends had their launch party on November 6 where Elstree and Borehamwood Mayor Richard Butler officially opened the group.

Through donations and fundraising events, the group collected enough money to open their new youth group that will run every Friday.

Michelle Jonas, one of the mums involved in the group said: “The opening night went really well. Richard Butler came down for the whole hour and officially opened it for us.

“We had Play-Doh tables, lots of Lego, and a magazine corner, arts and crafts, a CD player and a Subbuteo table.

“We also had a tug-of-war which the kids loved. Every week there will be a different activity.

“I’ve had such good feedback on Facebook with people saying that their child cannot wait to come back next week – it was definitely needed in the town.”

The Lego was donated by the group leader and the Subbuteo table was also a donation and Morrisons have also agreed to donate £20 a month to help with the tuck shop.

Other activities included a cake decorating table and a pool table where the children could play.

Despite having reached full capacity at the moment, Funky Friends have still got people asking if their child can join.

The more adult volunteers they have the more children they can accommodate for.

If anyone wants to join, please send an email to admin@funkyfriends.org.
