Members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBT) in Hertfordshire have been working to develop a new website.

Herts1125 Who not What (WnW) have been working together with Youth Connexions to create the website which gives advice to people who have questions about coming out, healthcare and where to go for support.

Young Pride in Herts launched on October 29 and is a useful site for professionals, parents and carers who may need information to support a young person struggling with their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Alex Ferguson, Youth Connexions Youth Work Development Worker said: “Designing and populating a website has been a journey in itself.

“Young people have volunteered a lot of their time, making sure the information is well set out, relevant and informative.

“Their start point was creating a site that they wished had been available to them earlier as young LGBT+, and as the project has neared completion they have expressed confidence that it will also help many others.”

Together, Herts1125 WnW and Youth Connexions is one of nine finalists in the Youth Volunteering Award category of the Children and Young People Now Annual Awards.

The winner will be announced on November 26 at the Hurlington Club in London.
