A group of German students paid a visit to Borehamwood to learn about their twin town.

The students, from Offenburg in Germany, were visiting London for a week and decided to see what their twin town was like.

The group of students, aged 14-16, visited the town on October 28 where they learnt about the history of the town and its connections to the film industry.

Antje Grosser, one of the teachers, said: “We met at the Offenburg Wine Festival and we decided it would be good to visit the town.

“We would have liked to have gone around Elstree Studios but we weren’t allowed but we did get to see the Big Brother house which was fun.”

After their tour around the town, the group had some fish and chips at St Michael’s Church Hall, in Borehamwood.

Dave Armitage from Elstree and Borehamwood Museum was there to greet the students and give them a speech about the history of the town.

For many of the students it was their first time in the country and have spent the week exploring the city and visited the London Eye and Madame Tussauds as well as Borehamwood.

Nick Male and Andrew Grady of the Borehamwood and Elstree Twin Town Association (BETTA), who organised the visit, were also there to greet the group.

Mr Grady said: “It is the third time that this has happened and last year there were about 30 students and now there are 70.”

The group stayed at Palmers Lodge in London and left the city on October 29.
