PEOPLE of all faiths and none will unite together and volunteer for Mitzvah Day 2015.

The Times and Independent Series is an official sponsor of the national good deeds day, which will be held on Sunday, November 22.

Teams of volunteers across north London have already signed up to help out and we want to encourage more people to do the same.

This year, the project’s theme is refugees and asylum seekers and volunteers will collect and deliver food and make new arrivals feel welcome in the UK.

Mitzvah Day is urging communities, who want to help, to support existing charities with clearly defined needs and systems to ensure goods go to where they are needed.

Many of these projects will be multi-faith Mitzvah Days – seeing Jewish groups work in unison with Muslims, Christians, Hindus and those of other, or no, faith.

Mitzvah Day’s Interfaith chairman Daniela Pears said: “This is an issue close to the heart of the Jewish community. We have had so many enquiries from synagogues and communities asking how they can help.

“Last year, Mitzvah Day reached 37,000 volunteers from all age groups and all parts of the community – from nursery age through to the elderly. It also gave us an opportunity to come together with our neighbours of different faiths to work on mutually agreed projects.

“Everyone involved in Mitzvah Day had a fulfilling, purposeful and enjoyable experience – sharing a mutual passion for social action across faith communities and a willingness to help those in desperate need within their own neighbourhoods.”

Mitzvah Day is also encouraging communities to invite their MPs and councillors to their projects.

Mitzvah Day projects are designed to be inclusive, using expert advice from leading disability organisations.

Projects for refugees and asylum seekers are listed on the projects page of the Mitzvah Day website -> www.mitzvahday.org.uk/all-projects.html Communities and charities wishing to take part in Mitzvah Day, should email info@mitzvahday.org.uk or call 020 3747 9960.
