Students kicked and punched their way to victory as they picked up 19 medals at a Taekwon-Do competition.

On Sunday, October 4, 15 students from Rayners Lane Taekwon-Do Academy took part in the English Taekwon-Do Opens held in St. Albans.

The team of 15, which comprised of students with mostly none or limited competition experience, reigned supreme at the event and took home a total of 19 medals between them.

The tournament attracted around 400 competitors from around the UK to compete in three different areas, including solo performance routines, sparring and special technique events.

The Academy, which is based at The Beacon Centre in Scott Crescent, South Harrow, won medals in all three areas of the event, including four gold medals, four silver and 11 bronze medals.

A total of five young students also competed in the synchronised team patterns event, where they also won 3rd place amongst the many other teams entered.

Instructor Stuart Anslow said: “This was great as it is the first time the youngsters have ever tried this section of the tournament and had had limited practice time prior to the event.

He added that he was very proud of the students and their performances at the event, and said: “They train hard at the Academy and the results are both a reflection of their hard work and the quality of the Academy itself.”
